Swine Flu

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Many of you have been writing me about Swine Flu. The important thing is to continue frequent handwashing and good hygiene. The recently declared the Virus H1N1 a "Pandemic" which means that it has spread to enought countries worldwide to define it as such.

The first global flu pandemic of the century was declared yesterday after the World Health Organisation held an emergency summit. The decision was taken after it was found the H1N1 virus was spreading in at least global two regions. Cases are on the increase in Australia, the UK, Japan and Chile.

The head of the World Health Organization, Dr Margaret Chan was quick to stress that it did not mean the virus was causing more deaths or had increased in severity. The pandemic, which originated in Mexico in April, is thought to have spread to 30,000 people, with 141 deaths so far recorded. The WHO has not recommended that any national borders be closed or that restrictions on the movement of people and goods are currently necessary.

So please do not worry too much but make sure to practice good hygiene with frequent handwashing.

Wishing you the best of health!

Dr. Luigi
