Weight Management with Chewing Gum
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
For the health tip of the day, interesting news on weight management with chewing gum.
A new study shows that chewimg gum may be a potential tool in weight management in terms of controlling snacking on sugary foods.
Scientists in the US found men and women who chewed gum three times hourly in the afternoon ate fewer snacks. Specifically, the gum-chewers ate fewer sweet snacks than when not chewing on gum.
Subjects in the study were split into two groups, one group chewed gum every hour for fifteen minutes total. They had three gum-chewing sessions within three hours, while the other group did not chew gum. After the three hours, BOTH groups were allowed to eat any snacks they chose. The people who chewed sugar free gum chose less snacks and reported feeling fuller. The decrease in overall snack intake was approximately 40 calories which is significant.
The study was conducted by Dr. Geiselman and is the first of it's kind.
Something else to consider if you are working on your own weight management or coaching someone in weight management.
wishing you all the best of Health!
Sincerely,
