Building a little muscle in your body

Happy Friday to you!
On Thursday morning here in LA, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the world famous musician Stevie Wonder on his radio show KJLH. We had a great discussion on diet and exercise and muscle metabolism. Stevie asked me how much weight he should lose as he sipped on an Herbalife Vanilla Strawberry shake. I told him that because he's a muscular man taller than six feet, that he should focus on exercising and feeding his muscle with healthy protein sources. So, the health tip of the day is to concentrate on building a little muscle in your body.
Muscle burns fat both during exercise and while you sleep. So an important part of weight management is to exercise daily, I recommend 5 days/week. Even for older adults and women, building healthy muscle is very important because muscle regulates metabolism. One pound of your Skeletal muscle burns about 14 calories everyday without doing anything but rest, so when we exercise it burns more. Very fit muscular people can often eat more calories than average because their muscle burns the calories even while they are sleeping.
Recent studies have even suggested that people with muscle live longer compared to those without, even if those people are carrying a little extra fat weight. The skeletal muscle seems to have a protective effect on metabolism and helps prevent conditions like diabetes Type II and other medical problems.
I am off to Europe for 3 weeks of work, but I will writing you as often as possible from various countries for health tip updates!
Wishing you the best of health!
Sincerely,
Dr. Luigi
