Vitamin D

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

For the nutritin tip of the day, a new study shows that Vitamin D deficiency may cause health problems.

According to findings published in Diabetes Care, a study with 3,262 Chinese people aged between 50 and 70 showed that 94 per cent were vitamin D deficient or insufficient, and 42 per cent of these people also had metabolic syndrome.

“Vitamin D deficiency is becoming a condition that is causing a large burden of disease across the globe with particular deleterious impact among the elderly,” said researcher Dr Oscar Franco from Warwick Medical School in England.

ALSO, because many of you have asked...I will try to post questions that I get from you all around the world and share them with others...
This is from Lorrie Lee Massie in Portland, Oregon, USA. Lorrie asked why salt is important and what level in the diet is good.
Best of Health to you!!

We need salt because its an electrolyte which helps power the body. Think of a car with a battery. Well, we don't have those so we need electrolytes to help with energy, they establish something called an electro-chemical gradient which help power cells. So sodium, potassium and chloride are all important.
A low sodium diet is two grams or less but having bit more is fine.

All the best,
